Logic "Under Pressure" Album Review

★★★★✩
by Tony Diamonds

Maryland rapper Logic first emerged onto the hip hop scene in 2010 with his mixtape "Young, Broke, and Infamous". His has released many mixtapes since then, such as "Young Sinatra", "Young Sinatra: Undeniable" and "Young Sinatra: Welcome to Forever". While he was signed to Visionary Music Group, his rising fame netted him a deal with Def Jam and his first high profile full length release. Lets check out what I thought about his latest album with this Logic Under Pressure review!
BEATS: ★★★★✩
All the beats are pretty fresh. They're all pretty slow and epic in tone, as Logic likes to bust fast raps. Nearly all the tracks have that extremely modern sound to them that you've been hearing all over Drake's music for a while now. I believe that is what Logic has been catching the most flak for with this project - a lot of the songs wind up sounding kind of like everyone else's songs (Drake, Kendrick, etc). Still, when viewed objectively, this album slams!
LYRICS: ★★★★★
Logic is a dope rapper, no ifs, ands or buts. He makes rapping fast seem almost effortless and brings high intensity on every track. I'd say the best part of the album is that nearly every track is a constant reminder of Logic's technical rapping skills. Sometimes he sounds a little too much like other current rappers with regards to voice, but that doesn't take away from his rapping ability at all for me.
CONTENT: ★★★✩✩
My main issue with this album is the content - it is very repetitive. If you've heard other Logic albums, you know that he doesn't stray far from the same few core topics. I'd like to hear him get creative with subject matter that doesn't involve growing up poor, witnessing drug use, etc. Keeping it real is all good, but after awhile even the most personal story can get stale for fans and repeat listeners.
OVERALL: ★★★★✩
This album is dope. My only qualms are the overuse of autotune (but what high profile album DOESN'T use autotune these days) and how it sounds like stuff that other rappers have released over the last couple of years with regards to the beats and Logic's rap voice. Still though, I highly recommend copping it, as you won't see too many major label rappers making an album that is this consistent anytime soon.

Thus concludes this Logic Under Pressure review. You can cop the album yourself for $11.49 on Amazon.com here: Under Pressure (Deluxe) [Explicit] (affiliate link). Also be sure to check out my track for track in-depth review of this album here: Logic Under Pressure Review.
