Chicago is flowing with some talented artists, so I wasn't too surprised when I found another with his own sound and voice but then you never really hear rappers coming out of Portland, Oregon. He's putting both those names on his back and so far he's repping them good. I'm only upset that I havent heard of him earlier but better late than never. And just in time to share his most recent project The St. Johns Scholar. With this mixtape you can tell he put a lot of hard-work and dedication into it. I see a lot of music out there with some catchy hooks and some instrumentals you can nod your head to but a lot of them have no context or meaning behind it and you can't really visualize the lyrics. It's simply just for the ears and not the mind or soul, if you will. And that's all fine but there are times where I would like to listen to something that'll have me pause and think for a second or where I could close my eyes and see everything the artist is painting in the song. The St. Johns Scholar is exactly that. It gets personal as he narrates life in St. Johns in Portland and paints stories in each track as he puts the struggles of St. Johns into perspective.
