Top Of The Year: Disappointing Projects Of 2013

Top Disappointing Projects of 2013

Please understand that these are just projects that I was hyped or looked forward to and they didn't meet my standards. I like and support all these artists but these are the projects that let me down this year.

Talib Kweli - Prisoner Of Conscious: I was hyped for this album since I thought his "Gutter Rainbows" was dope. First off his feature selections were horrible and the production was bad too. Kweli tried to be commercial with this one, getting a J Cole beat and even trying to spit like him. Then using that awful Harry Fraud beat. If Oh No produced the whole album it would of been dope.

Durag Dynasty - 360 Waves: I'm a big fan of Planet Asia, and his homie's Tri-State and Ben are dope as well. Alchemist did his thing with the beats on this one, although there weren't any bangers that stood out to me. What I didn't like about this was every track sounded exactly the same. There was no story or actual meaning to any of these tracks. Plus they (mostly Tri-State) annoyed me with his alphabetical letter rhyming scheme that it turned me off to the album.

Hopsin - Knock Madness: I knew Hopsin was a big Eminem fan but it's bigger then I thought. Homie's beats were dull, every track sounded like it continued to the next one. He just talked about the same shit, fans, his girl and his music. He replicated Em down to even his froggy voiced scream. And for a dude who talks a lot of shit to artists and certain type of fans, he's kind of a softy for crying too much about women.

Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire - Kismet: eXquire was one of my favorite artists of last year, his "Lost In Translation" was Top of The Year 2011 for me. What I liked about him was his style first off, it reminded me of some rugged 90's shit. And then his beat selection like using rare instrumentals from El-P and what not. "Kismet" is the product of him totally turning sides from when he first came out to being more commercial and I hated it. Beats and flow were wack.

Deltron 3030 - Event II: I was a little hyped for this album since I haven't really heard much from any of the three in a while. The first album was dope cause it was Dan doing what he does production wise and it was them trying something new. Here it seemed that they tried to be too futuristic like on some Kanye shit that I was lost listening to it.

Chuuwee - ThriLL: When I first heard of Chuuwee I thought he was straight but he grew on me the past year. I really like his flow and his voice. Hearing this mixtape really set me back from him. Homie went commercial with the flow and beats, and his content was too much on that drug shit. I like his straight style and not when he tries to sound like them molly popping losers.

Madchild - Lawnmowerman: This will probably be the only time you'll see Madchild in this section. I was a big Swollen fan back in the day but lately they have been off the underground sound and went the commercial way. Prevail is prob the only dude who has stayed in his own lane the whole time. In a recent interview I found out that Mad is a fan of Lil Wayne and all them wack artists which answers my questions of why he spits so corny now. And his beat selection is wack too.

The Godfathers - Once Upon A Crime: Alot of Necro fans will hate me for this. I didn't think this album was really bad but I was disappointed in the fact that I thought Necro's production would of compromised G Rap's style better. If he were to go back to the days of Ill Bill's "What's Wrong With Bill" then this album would be classic. I'm starting to get tired of Necro's punch in scheme and his stressing of the last word of lines. I felt this was a Necro album and G Rap just featured on every song.

Ras Kass x Louie Rubio - Drop No Evil: Nothing really much to say about this album. Ras hasn't been dope since his sophomore LP. His verse on Evidence's "Red Carpet" was straight and I figured he'd be getting back in the swing of things. But him on some Dubstep shit, WACK! Stick to the script homie and stay in your lane.

The Uncluded - Hokey Fright: I've never really gone out of my way to get an Aesop album, but I think he's different and dope in a way. But this... I don't know what the fuck this was. There wasn't any song I'd ever play again in my lifetime.
