The Ansah Brothers - Polaroid (Album Review)

Rating: ★1/2

The Australian hip hop duo, The Ansah Brothers, consists of brothers Genesis Owusu & Citizen Kay.  Together, they spit intelligent verses and spoken word poetry over funky instrumentals on their debut mixtape, Polaroid.  While only releasing a 11-track mixtape thus far, its evident that we will be hearing more about The Ansah Brothers in the coming years.  Using clever wordplay, educated lyricism, and unique flows, the duo make you want to listen to what they have to say, because if you don't, you just might miss something.  Creating a tape like Polaroid is a solid step in the right direction for these young up-and-coming artists to make a name for themselves.  The standout track from this tape is Intractable, the fifth song which captures the essence of Polaroid, using a "horn heavy" instrumental and Owusu and Kay swapping bars proves not only their talent as lyricists, but as producers as well.  Despite being at the start of their career, the brothers rap as if they've been in the game for years.  Polaroid is a feel-good tape that might be just the way to kick your summer off right.
