Philadelphias own Reef The Lost Cauze and producer Bear-One have announced a full-length album! "Furious Styles" will be released via Soulspazm Records (Marco Polo, Craig G) in digital format on June 24th and CD format on July 8th.
An all illladelphia affair, other guests on the album include Peedi Crakk (State Property), STS aka Sugar Tongue Slim (RJD2, The Crookers) Truck North (The Roots) and local legend Slaughter Rico. Bear-One has been a fixture in hip-hop for well over a decade with an impressive list of credits to his music resume. As a producer his beats have graced such artists as Cormega, Jim Jones, Young Chris, Black Thought and Infamous Mobb.
A well-rounded emcee, Reef The Lost Cauzes music veers from conscious to conceptual and beat you over the head aggression effortlessly. In addition to his solo work, he is a MVP of such heavyweight crews as Army Of The Pharaohs (which includes Jedi Mind Tricks, Apathy, Esoteric, Celph Titled, etc) and Beardgang (Jakk Frost, Freeway, Malik B, etc).
The duo first linked up in 2003 after meeting at the annual B-Boy and B-Girl BBQ in South Philly. Bear saying of the emcee Reef is one of the best MC's in Philly, hands down and a great guy to work with!"
While a full-length project was always in the back of their minds, Reefs tour schedule and Bears stint as artist development at Def Jam kept them plenty busy. As Bear recalls Starting in 2014 we re-connected and just recorded a few loosies but they were all bangers! Then I would make custom beats just for him and we continued to record. By the beginning of this year we had a full on cohesive project which we are both very proud of!
The album is named after the iconic father figure in 1991 film Boyz N The Hood (played by Laurence Fishburne). Of the title Reef said Furious Styles definitely applies to the beats and rhymes mindset of the album. However, it also applies to me at this stage of my life because Im now of that age and status that the character in the movie was. A father who wants to drop knowledge to his children but if you mess with my family I can still put my foot in your ass.
With this album announcement comes a track from the forthcoming album. "All Ours" featuring REDiROC from Ape Gang. Reef says of the track its an overview of what you can expect from this album. Soulful but grimy beats and attack bars that will get you hyped.
