On November 16th, 2000, 16 years and two days ago, the world was unfortunate enough to lose a visionary in DJ Screw. One of the most productive DJ's hip-hop has ever seen, DJ Screw was an absolute workhorse. With pivotal releases like "3 'n the Mornin', Pts. 1 & 2," and hundreds of "Screwtapes," his body of work still echoes throughout hip-hop since his rise in the early 90's. Whether the Houston scene is your favorite or not, it is hard to ignore his work ethic. Known by many as The Originator, Screw's introduction of Chopped and Screwed to music proved to be influential in years to come. The elements of his unique mixing and scratching styles have left their mark on hip-hop nationally. His music embodied the color purple, and he took DJ'ing somewhere it hadn't been yet.
