J Cole has been an innovator and a trend setter when it comes to how he approaches his music. From marketing, promotion, content, touring and many other aspects, he does things his own way and it's working well. While other artists are putting out a lot of music, Cole takes his time, using the less is more approach. He had an incredible 2016 with "2014 Forrest Hills Drive Tour", packing venues and bringing in some serious cash in the process.
Late last year he dropped his 4th album "4 Your Eyez Only" and had a killer first week selling 511,000. He has released a new track titled "High for Hours". Cole kicks some serious knowledge as you would expect, sticking with the tone of his recent LP. He speaks on the state of the US from his perspective. Police brutality, and the hypocrisy of the government are some of the topics he touches on. He explains his meeting with President Obama and the intimate conversation they had. It's a cool insight not only into Cole but Obama as well.
The track has a throwback jazz infused vibe, that brings me back to older Outkast. This would sound amazing played live by The Roots.
And on Spotify.
